Overstay Fines
Overstay fines are the daily financial penalties that accrue when a person remains in the UAE after their visa, permit, or post-cancellation grace period expires. The fine builds per day of unlawful stay and must normally be settled before exit, renewal, or status change, although periodic government amnesty initiatives have allowed overstayers to regularise or leave with fines waived. Beyond money, prolonged overstay carries escalating consequences: entry bans, immigration file flags that block future visas, and in serious or repeat cases administrative deportation. Overstay situations commonly arise from cancelled employment (the grace-period clock runs out during a job search), expired visit visas, dependants of a sponsor who lost status, and people in litigation who cannot leave. The practical workflow is always: compute the exact unlawful-stay period, check eligibility for waiver or amnesty, settle or contest, then regularise status before fines compound the problem.
