Order on Petition
الأمر على عريضة
An order on petition is a decision a UAE judge issues on a written application without summoning the other side — used where surprise or speed is essential. Common examples include permissions to serve by particular means, orders to obtain or preserve documents, travel ban requests in debt cases, and various enforcement-related authorisations. The applicant files a petition with supporting documents; the judge grants, refuses or amends it, usually within days. The affected party can file a grievance against the order once aware of it, putting the question before the court with both sides heard. It matters because it is the procedural engine behind many dramatic moments in UAE practice — frozen accounts, sudden travel bans — all of which begin as ex parte orders on petition. You meet it as an applicant needing urgent one-sided relief or as a respondent deciding whether to grieve against an order issued behind your back.
