MOFA — the UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs, previously known as MOFAIC — is the federal ministry whose attestation stamp makes foreign documents usable in the UAE and UAE documents usable abroad. A degree certificate, marriage certificate, power of attorney or commercial document issued overseas must typically be attested in its home country, then by the UAE embassy there, and finally by MOFA in the UAE before any government department, court or employer will accept it. The reverse chain applies to UAE documents heading abroad. You meet MOFA attestation when starting a job (degree attestation), sponsoring a spouse (marriage certificate), registering a company with foreign corporate documents, or litigating with foreign evidence.
