Visa Stamping

Visa stamping is the traditional final step of the UAE residence process — physically affixing the residence visa sticker in the holder's passport. The term survives even though the mechanics have changed: since reforms in recent years, residence status in most cases is recorded electronically and linked to the Emirates ID rather than stamped into the passport, so the Emirates ID card and the digital residency record now serve as primary proof of status. People and PROs still say 'stamping' to mean the final issuance stage, and the concept matters in timing disputes: until issuance completes, the applicant technically holds only an entry permit or pending status, which affects when employment lawfully begins, when dependants can be sponsored, and when the person can exit and re-enter freely. Old passports with stamped visas also still circulate, raising transition questions at renewals and border checks.
