Power of Attorney

A Power of Attorney (POA) is a written legal instrument by which a principal authorises an agent (the attorney-in-fact) to act on their behalf in specified matters. UAE law recognises general POAs covering broad acts, and special POAs limited to specific transactions — selling a property, signing an employment contract, or representing the principal in court. To be effective in the UAE, a POA must be drafted in Arabic (or bilingually), signed before a Notary Public at a UAE Justice Department or court, and, if executed abroad, authenticated through the issuing country, its foreign ministry, and the UAE embassy, then attested at the UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs. POAs automatically terminate on revocation, the principal's death, or the completion of the specified act.
