Notary Public
The notary public is the official (or licensed private notary) before whom key legal documents are authenticated in the UAE: powers of attorney, company memoranda and their amendments, legal notices, declarations and acknowledgments. Notarisation confirms the signer's identity and capacity and gives the document official evidentiary weight — many institutions, from banks to courts to the land department, simply will not act on an unnotarised power of attorney. Sessions are now largely remote: video-call notarisation through court apps is routine in Dubai and other emirates. Documents in a foreign language must be accompanied by sworn legal translation, and documents signed abroad take the attestation route instead, ending with UAE embassy and Ministry of Foreign Affairs stamps. It matters because notarisation is the gateway to acting through agents and forming companies. You meet the notary when authorising a lawyer to litigate, empowering someone to sell your property, or signing an MOA.
