DIFC Small Claims Tribunal (SCT)
محكمة الدعاوى الصغيرة في مركز دبي المالي العالمي
The Small Claims Tribunal is a division of the DIFC Courts designed to resolve lower-value disputes quickly, cheaply and in English, usually without lawyers appearing at hearings. It handles claims within its monetary limits and employment disputes connected to the DIFC, and parties outside the DIFC can also opt in to its jurisdiction by agreement. Proceedings are deliberately informal: filings are electronic, a consultation stage pushes settlement first, and if no deal is reached a judge decides after a short hearing — often within weeks. SCT judgments are enforceable like other DIFC Courts orders, including against assets onshore through established enforcement mechanisms. It matters because it gives individuals and SMEs a realistic forum for unpaid salaries, small contract debts and deposit disputes that would not justify full litigation costs. You meet it as a DIFC employee chasing dues, a contractor with a modest unpaid invoice, or a party whose contract contains an SCT opt-in clause.
