Real Estate Power of Attorney
الوكالة العقارية
A real estate power of attorney is a notarised authorisation allowing an agent to act in property matters for the owner or buyer — to sell, buy, lease, mortgage or manage specific properties. UAE practice treats property POAs with deliberate strictness because they are the classic instrument of fraud: registration trustees and the Dubai Land Department scrutinise them closely, generally requiring a specific POA naming the property and the power exercised (a general POA often will not suffice to sell), recent execution, and proper notarisation — with attestation and legalisation chains for POAs signed abroad, plus Arabic translation. Sellers living overseas rely on POAs constantly, as do buyers completing transfers while traveling. Anyone dealing with an attorney rather than the principal should verify the POA with the notary system, confirm it has not been revoked, and ensure sale proceeds flow to the owner, not the agent — a standard trustee safeguard. Owners granting POAs should keep them narrow and time-limited.
