Makani

Makani (Arabic for 'my location') is Dubai's official geographic addressing system, developed by Dubai Municipality. Every building entrance in the emirate is assigned a unique ten-digit Makani number that pinpoints its exact location, replacing the older patchwork of street names and PO boxes. The number appears on building address plates and in government records, and is used by emergency services, delivery companies and government departments. In legal practice, Makani numbers show up in court documents, tenancy contracts, notices and process service, where precisely identifying a property or a party's address matters — for example, serving an eviction notice or describing a property in a claim. Several other emirates have adopted the same system, so the number is increasingly a standard way to identify premises in UAE paperwork.
