ILOE (Involuntary Loss of Employment Insurance)
التأمين ضد التعطل عن العمل
ILOE is the UAE's mandatory unemployment insurance scheme, introduced in 2023, covering most employees in the private sector and federal government. Workers pay a small subscription (premiums differ by salary band) and, if they lose their job involuntarily — not by resignation or dismissal for disciplinary cause — they can claim monthly compensation calculated as a percentage of their prior basic salary for a limited number of months, provided they subscribed for the minimum qualifying period and claim within the deadline. Failing to subscribe triggers fines and can block new work permits, so ILOE status is now a standard onboarding checklist item. In practice you meet ILOE in three places: payroll compliance audits, post-termination advice (whether a dismissal characterisation kills the claim), and disputes where an employer's mislabelled 'resignation' deprives a worker of both gratuity arguments and ILOE benefits.
