Labor Ban
A labour ban in the UAE is an administrative or judicial restriction that prevents a worker from taking up new employment in the country for a set period. The most common type is an administrative ban imposed by MOHRE when an employment contract is terminated under specific conditions — for example, when the employee leaves before the contractual term without a valid reason, when an employer files a valid absconding report, or in breach-of-contract scenarios. Bans typically last six months to one year but can be longer for serious violations. Current UAE labour law has significantly narrowed the grounds for bans: workers on fixed-term contracts who complete their term, or who resign during a probation period after notice, generally face no ban. Workers can challenge an unjust ban through MOHRE.
