Default Judgment
A default judgment is a judgment issued when the defendant fails to appear or file a defence after being validly served. The UAE court does not automatically rule for the claimant — it still reviews the documents and may reject unproven claims — but the absent defendant loses the chance to contest evidence, raise objections, or counterclaim. It matters because many people first learn of a UAE case only after a default judgment reaches enforcement: bank accounts frozen, travel ban requested, assets attached. Depending on how the defendant was served and the type of case, remedies may include opposition or appeal within strict deadlines running from service of the judgment. You meet it if you ignore court notifications, moved without updating your address, or were served by publication — which is why responding to any court notice immediately, even just to instruct a lawyer, is critical.
