Conciliation
الصلح
Conciliation is a structured attempt to settle a dispute with the help of a neutral conciliator before it proceeds to judgment — and in the UAE it is built into the court system rather than left to private choice. Federal and local laws route defined categories of civil, commercial and family disputes through conciliation and mediation centres attached to the courts; family cases generally pass through family guidance before a personal status case is heard, and Dubai channels many claims through its amicable settlement machinery. If the parties agree, the settlement is recorded and acquires executive force, enforceable like a judgment; if not, the case is referred onward with limitation periods protected during the process. Statements made in conciliation are treated as confidential to encourage candour. It matters because for whole categories of disputes you simply cannot reach a judge without first attempting it, and a well-handled conciliation session often ends a conflict in weeks. You meet it as the first official appointment after filing many kinds of claims.
