    المادة 1

    Article (1) This Regulation will be cited as "Regulation No. (9) of 2008 Concerning the Change of Names of Natural Persons in the Emirate of Dubai".

    Article (2) The following words will have the meaning indicated opposite each of them unless the context implies otherwise: UAE: The United Arab Emirates. Emirate: The Emirate of Dubai. Court: The Sharia Court in Dubai. Application: A request for a change of the first name of a natural person. Certificate: A document issued by the Court approving the Application.

    Article (3) No amendment, change, or correction of the first name of a natural person may be made without a Certificate issued by the Court. This does not apply to the correction of any material ©2022 The Supreme Legislation Committee in the Emirate of Dubai 1 Every effort has been made to produce an accurate and complete English version of this legislation. However, for the purpose of its interpretation and application, reference must be made to the original Arabic text. In case of conflict, the Arabic text will prevail.

    المادة 4

    Article (4) a. The Court will have the jurisdiction to consider Applications submitted to it by UAE nationals whose family books ( Khulasat Qaid) and passports are issued by the competent entity in the Emirate. b. Where the applicant is a minor, the Application must be submitted by his guardian, or by his custodian where he has no guardian.

    Article (5) The Court will conduct the necessary investigation and research; and will request the Public Prosecution, the Directorate of Naturalisation and Residency, and other competent security entities in the UAE to provide it with any information they have regarding applicants, including their criminal records.

    Article (6) Applications will be announced through publication in Arabic in two (2) widely-circulated daily newspapers at the expense of applicants. Any person who has an objection to an Application must submit the objection to the Court within one (1) month from the date of publication.

    Article (7) a. The Court will decide on objections and determine Applications. Where the Court approves an application, it will issue the relevant Certificate. b. The Court will notify the Directorate of Naturalisation and Residency and the Dubai Police General Headquarters of Certificates.

    المادة 8

    Article (8) After receiving a Certificate, the applicant must request all concerned official entities to make the necessary modification to the official entries and documents maintained by these entities in respect of the applicant.

    Article (9) A fixed fee of three hundred dirhams (AED 300.00) will be collected by the Court for each Application.

    المادة 10

    Article (10) This Regulation will be published in the Official Gazette and will come into force on the day on which it is published. Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Chairman of the Executive Council Issued in Dubai on 19 December 2006 Corresponding to 28 Thu al-Qidah 1427 A.H.
