Setting up an LLC in Dubai mainland vs DMCC freezone for fintech consulting

Asked by Anonymous·May 10, 2026·2 answers
My consultancy advises crypto exchanges on AML/KYC. Annual revenue projection AED 1.8M, mostly invoiced to clients in Singapore and London. Is mainland LLC or DMCC better for ease of operation, banking, and tax exposure?

DMCC for your profile: (1) 100% foreign ownership without local agent; (2) full repatriation of capital and profits; (3) DMCC has the best-funded crypto/fintech ecosystem in the UAE with VARA collaboration. Mainland LLC now also permits 100% foreign ownership for most activities, but mainland comes with the new corporate-tax burden (9% above AED 375k), whereas DMCC qualifying free-zone income remains 0% if you meet the qualifying-income criteria. For your invoicing-abroad model, DMCC qualifies. Banking is similar — both work with Mashreq/ENBD.

To Priya's point on tax: confirm your activity is on the DMCC qualifying-activity list (consultancy to non-UAE clients counts). For your client base abroad, the 0% qualifying-income rate is sustainable. Note the new economic-substance reporting requirements — if you are a 'relevant activity' you must demonstrate UAE substance annually.
